The new wireless Internet service in campus was opened to the members in university at April 16. This service is provided by the school to reduce the inconvenience of previous free Wi-Fi service on the campus. KNUE Wi-Fi is available in almost all places on campus, including dormitories, school buildings, and even on the lawns. Namely, all the members of KNUE including students, professors, staffs, and teacher-trainees, have access to the Wi-Fi. In addition, the ID and password of the University Portal are equally applied to the Wi-Fi service, which makes easier for users to remember.
The new Wi-Fi service is more upgraded than the previous service named KT Free Wi-Fi, Olleh Wi-Fi, and Public Wi-Fi Free in terms of speed, service area, and convenience. The previous Wi-Fi service in school was operated by a private telecommunication company, and its maximum speed was about 600Mbps. In addition, its service area was restricted to the interior of the building and just a part of the outdoor area. However, the new KNUE Wi-Fi is operated by the school, and the service area is expanded to the entire campus. The server for certifying is not needed as well. Thus, the use of Wi-Fi became easier and faster in a broader area. However, some say that the KNUE Wi-Fi does not seem to work well as its connection is often unstable. About this issue, KNUE Residential Educational Center says that the center would map out a solution and solve the problem based on feedback from users.
