As we know, KNUE is the only University which puts purpose of raising all kinds of teachers In Korea. In other words, students with similar dreams apply and live together in KNUE. Lots of different characters with the same goals, They think variously about other majors. Then, how do we think of other majors, in particular some stereotypes or expectations? Let’s get it started.

<1st college> 1. Education AGREE? People think that we will uncondi- tionally double-major other subjects and take the teacher's certification examina- tion. WELL... There are lots of examples about double-majoring because it's common in KNUE, but in fact, many students get their jobs in educational company or go on to graduate school. There are lots of ways to make it to the job. 2. Early Childhood Education AGREE? People think that it is a little bit harder for men to become early childhood education teachers. Maybe this is because we have experienced lots of female teach- ers in our childhood. Also, someone told us our education doesn't need specialized education technology. WELL... There's no discrimination for male teacher, both inside and outside our major. Professor and classmates treat everyone with no difference. Also, we are learning systematic knowledge which considers personal talent and development by debating educational subjects. 3. Primary Education AGREE? People think that our major has only 'studious people'. Maybe because primary education has pretty high admission grades, people think we have not literally played around in high school and also in here.
4. Special Education AGREE? We've hardly met people who looked at us with prejudice. But as we hear, some students or even teachers think that special education is the area people cannot easily access. WELL.. But like Korean teacher teaches Korean, we just teach 'special things' to students, in other words, we're all educa- tional workers. So we want other students to think our major easier and communicate with us more, as if we all learn 'Introduc- tion to Special Education' as a duty course in KNUE. <2nd college> 5. Korean Language Education AGREE? People think that we are pretty good at keeping grammar while writing, and even talking, Also, we are expected to know lots of high-level vocabularies or confusing ones. WELL.. We all know that we should be professional in Korean, but we're still in process, so too much anticipation can be- come some kind of burden. One thing we can promise is, we try a lot to be better. 6. English Language Education AGREE? People think that we are so good at English. So, they expect us to understand every English media without translation. Also, People say that we're gathering on a small scale a lot. WELL.. We know we should be good at it. But there are seldom students who are skillful in all 4 areas of English. And our major mates’ characters vary, so we play in small groups a lot. But it doesn't mean that we never gather as a department. We also try to keep good relationship with every classmate.
7. German Language Education AGREE? Maybe it would be similar in every 'language' majors, People think we are good at speaking German. So someone wants us to speak in front of them. Also, we are expected to know and explain about German culture. WELL... We are still in learning course, so maybe just simple greeting would be fluent.
8. French Language Education AGREE? There are not many students in our major, so we will gather together a lot. And people expect us to speak French fluently. WELL... We all know about our classmates, so like others say, we gather and teach together frequently like a family. But we are still in progress of learning French, so it's hard to speak like natives.
9. Chinese Language Education AGREE? People think that we are all fluent in speaking Chinese. WELL... It's kind of cliche that people think if someone majors something, then he or she will be skilled at it. We all know about it, and it's kind of a burden to us, but we just think of it as a stimulus to become fluent.
10. Ethics Education AGREE? People think that we should act more politely than others, because we are in the department of 'Ethics' Education. In other words, they want us to make good on our department's name. WELL... Actually, we think it's kind of a mandatory, or negatively a burden for all KNUE students because we all want to be a teacher and teachers need to be more responsible for their behavior. So we try hard to behave to get qualified as the imposing teachers.
11. Social Studies Education AGREE? Some people think that we study lots of social subjects like law, economy and society. So they think we will just slightly dip our feet in those subjects. WELL... We are not the one who study a subject intensively. So maybe relatively our knowledge is lighter than other profession- als. However, we are confident in deliver- ing those knowledge to other people, and to our students.
12. Geography Education AGREE? Geography is just a ‘memorized subject’. And also, People ask us about some ‘theory of divination based on topog- raphy’ as if we were some kind of sha- mans. WELL... It’s partially right, but in order to understand geography, we have to study a lot of other subjects too. And we should use lots of mechanical methods to study, so it's hard to study geography only by memo- rizing. About the theory of divination based on topography, it’s not that connected with geography, so we also don't know exactly.
13. History Education AGREE? People think that we have lots of knowledge related with all kinds of history because we all experienced some history teachers who were good at storytelling. Also, people predict us as 'Hikikomori', which means some person who only like to stay home and watch some animations. WELL... We were also surprised that there are few people who know a lot of knowl- edges. We think we can be good story teller while studying here. Also, at least in a class of 20, most of our classmates love to go outside and get along with others. <3rd college> 14. Mathematics Education AGREE? People think that we can easily approach to mathematics with lots of inter- est. Also, they predict that we will be logical and calculate everything, So we will be in a strict atmosphere. WELL... Still we are in learning course, so it's also hard to solve difficult problems. But the process which occurs in solving those problems make us realize mathematical beauty. Also, we think mathematical thought is helpful in living in this un-explainable world. But it doesn't mean that we talk to each other with related symbols. We frequently gather and do some sports too. 15. Physics Education AGREE? People think that we are so much scientific in everything. So they expect us to recognize the speed of driving cars, and to be good at handling some machines such as computers. WELL... (LOL) We never try to figure out the speed of any cars, even what the brand is too. Also, we usually use computers when calculating complicate numbers of physics. But that's all. it's kind of a different problem. 16. Chemistry Education AGREE? People think we only study some methods to make magical medications, even someone ask us to combine some illegal drugs or bombs. WELL... We also learn lots of theoretical courses, because it's important to learn not just chemistry itself but also how to teach it. Also, we never take illegal medications into consideration. 17. Biology Education AGREE? People expect us to know every kind of plants' name. So they often ask us about it. Also, some people think we don't prefer to learn other science subjects like physics. WELL... It's hard to know all names because we are still students. Also, about the subject preferences, it varies but we all are aware of the necessity to learn every kinds of science to become good teachers. 18. Earth Science Education AGREE? People think that we watch and talk about stars while walking. Also, they expect us to know every kinds of constella- tions. WELL... It's honestly true that we often watch stars. But we don't know about stars in detail, including constellations. 19. Home Economics Education AGREE? People think our major is so much related with practical courses. Also, people expect our students to be good at making stuffs or think we are introvert. WELL... We don't have any practical courses in first grade, When we become sophomore, maybe there's a course in one semester. Also, about the expectation, it's various but we think we're more extrovert. 20. Computer Science Education AGREE? People find us when some accident related with school servers. Also, people expect that we are all good at computer skills including coding. WELL... We've never done something with the school programs. We are also confused. Also, maybe we are better computer-han- dler than other majors' students. But we also get stress due to coding. 21. Technology Education AGREE? People think that our percentage of passing teacher certification examination at once is higher, compared with other departments. So sometimes as a joke, they say we deceive when talking about that exam. WELL... As Engineering departments rarely open a teacher training course, there are relatively few options to become a teacher for our major. It means it's also difficult for us to be the teachers like others. And honestly we try not to care about what we hear, but we just keep in mind that we must try hard to pass the examination. 22. Environmental Education AGREE? People think that we are good at picking up trash and sometimes think that it's a hobby due to our department's name. So, some people give us a burden to recycle well. Also, our department is pretty unique, so people doesn't know what kind of teach- ers we will become. WELL... Actually, it's our duty to keep the environment clean, and we are more aware of it than others so we try to think that burden as a good stimulus. Also, it's true that there is few or no number of environ- ment teachers selected. But obviously there are ways to make it a job like double majoring, or going to graduate school. <4th college> 23. Music Education AGREE? Sometimes people think we are 'musical-professional'. So they expect us to sing like a singer, and play the piano like a pianist. Also, someone think that musical education major students didn't study well in high school WELL... It's correct to be professional in overall musical abilities, but we have individual majors, which means we each have our confident part in music. Some could be piano, and some could be singing. So it's quite various. Also, music education is 'education'. So the entrance requirement isn't that different with other majors. 24. Art Education AGREE? Some people think we started art because we didn't like studying. Also, they expect, or maybe compliment that our style is pretty unique. WELL... Like the other majors, we are also art 'education'. So we had to study hard to become KNUE students. Also, we feel grateful about those compliments. But actually we prefer dark sweatsuit because we have to be careful not to our clothes with colorful paint. 25. Physical Education AGREE? People think we are good at all kinds of sports, and also expect some won- derful body shapes. Also, they think we drink a lot and frequently. WELL... Well, actually we are all good sports player, having some good sports sense. But about the bodies, we all have some minor and major injuries because of the period when we prepared for the entrance examinations. Also, we drink sometimes, but there are also lots of classmates who never drink for varioous reasons. |
Now we simply figured out what do students think or talk about all majors in KNUE. As the subjects that we’re going to teach becomes the name of our majors, what we think about the subject becomes what we do about the majors. Simple, or maybe cute stereotypes can be jokes. However, those must not get used to burden them. So, it is good for us to think one more before talking about every major.
