[Vol.84] Memoirs of 2020
With the emergence of COVID-19 in Wuhan city on December 30, 2019, many events occurred in Korea. Therefore, we decide to have a time that LOOKS BACK on COVID-19.
COVID-19, which began in January, has changed many people's way of life.
What changes have emerged? We picked two categories where critical changes took place.
Outdoor activities:
Before, when students visit the school library and the student halls, they didn't have to do anything.
But, because of COVID-19, students must fill out a questionnaire and take a QR code.
When we watch some performances, other changes can be found. To watch musicals and plays before covid-19, We just had to arrive on time in time and checked tickets. As the risk of COVID-19 infection has increased, we must measure body temperature, fill out questionnaires, and wear a mask until musicals and plays end.
We can see the changes in extracurricular activities as COVID-19 is pervasive: the way of admissions counseling, international moves, and interview changes. Previously each school gathered in one place to hold admissions counseling. But, this year, it was done through individual counseling.
Extracurricular activities that students actually meet and communicate in real-time was conducted remotely.
Also, college entrance procedures has changed When our school conducted the interview previously, students entered the writing room. And after that, they filled out presentation materials about teacher aptitude questions. After this, they immediately entered the interview room, presented presentation materials, and conducted the interview. After COVID-19, school interviews must be conducted in a designated area through online methods and teacher aptitude questions are discontinued.
Unprecedented problems like the increase of mask demands that exploded in a remarkably short period. Due to the nature of airborne diseases, masks were essential. Many people had difficulty getting masks to wear on at drug stores. People had to buy their masks at exorbitant prices because unscrupulous people bought large quantities of masks and resold them at high prices. Some companies were found making and selling fake KF94 masks using cloth without a license or certification. Fortunately, these problems were quickly stabilized by implementing a five-part mask system so that each person could purchase a mask at a pharmacy on a designated day.
Corona has also put the medical community on alert.
The most urgent problem in the medical community is the rapid increase of patients leading to a shortage of intensive care unit and intensive care unit specialists.
In this difficult situation, a surprising event occurred: The Doctors' Strike. During the strike, doctors called the government's four policies: expanding the quota of medical schools, establishing public medical schools, making Potional Benefitization, and fostering non-face-to-face careers. These are called 'four major evils' by doctors who were in the strike.
