Definition of AI
Artificial Intelligence is an area of computer science and information technology that study how computers can think, learn and develop what human intelligence can do. In modern times, attempts to introduce A.I in various areas of information technology and to use them in problem-solving actively have been made.
Types of AI technology
Natural language processing is a modern translation technique that allows for smooth translation considering multiple contexts. An automatic translation system is already being put into practice. Further research will allow people to communicate with computers and exchange information, leading to an innovative change in computer use. Recognition is a technique in which a computer analyzes video and images to find out what they are, or turns a person’s voice into a sentence.
Neural network technology is a technique which consists of a network of many simple processors that mimic the human brain. It performs the calculated behavior repeatedly, gathers information, and has a large classification system similar to thinking mechanism of humans. Deep Learning is used to cluster or classify data using artificial neural networks. It extracts the needed data from Big Data which has a vast amount of data generation, cycles, and formats. It can evolve to allow more technologies to be integrated with the reasoning method of AI
Verification of theory is the process of logically reasoning and demonstrating mathematical theorem from known facts. It is an essential skill used in many areas of AI Professional System is the technology to allow computers to replace many of the professional work currently undertaken by humans. For example, there are medical diagnoses, assessment of mineral deposits, structural estimation of compounds and determination of insurance claims.
Cases what AI is used in real life
Starting with Amazon’s AI speaker ‘Echo’, many IT companies, including Google, Apple, and Naver are introducing their AI speakers based on their platforms. Speakers are a kind of device that has no form and is the most appropriate method of communication with AI Since the speaker is relatively inexpensive and expansible, it is well suited to serve as a hub to provide many functions by combining with various products. As AI builds up more information, people use it more, it performing better.
Looking at the translation machine of the past, it was difficult to translate Korean into English correctly. Thanks to AI, the current translation system shows higher accuracy since it operates as a system that translates words or phrases units into sentences. The entire context is determined by an engine with Machine Learning skill and reflected in words, order, and context. Google translation and Papago of Naver are some of the well known major AI translators in Korea.
Google aims to extend human average lifespan to 500 years by starting ‘AI Calico Project’ that utilizes AI in 2013. Google currently carries out a study that uses Deep Learning to treat hard-to-cure diseases by analyzing a person’s genetic data and family tree. As a result, the accuracy of estimating tissue location in breast cancer diagnosis is high enough to reach about 89%. Some hospitals have already introduced ‘AI Doctor’ in Korea. The industry says even doctors who didn’t believe in the ability of AI have acknowledged the diagnosis and its accuracy.
Unilever, one of the global companies, started hiring AI interns. By advertising and recruiting volunteers through social media sites, the resume has been simplified. They didn’t have to fill in all the information on their resumes because Unilever was able to extract them from social media sites. Resumes of the candidates are analyzed through appropriate AI algorithms. AI identifies the candidates and classifies the documents of candidates. Candidates who pass the document screening process submit the answers to the given questions on video. Then, some who pass video interview process can get a chance to have a final interview. It is evaluated that AI automated the interview process rather than replacing it.
Korean first AI lawyer ‘U-LEX’ was hired by a large law firm ‘Draju’ which is a 10th largest with 150 lawyers in February. U-LEX quickly adjusts its research work to 20-30 seconds by reviewing relevant legal clauses and analyzing court decisions that used to take days. After changing the everyday language into legal terms, it quickly searches hundreds of or thousands of statutes and cases learned and shows them in order of importance. A lawyer from the Draju said, “The use of U-LEX is overwhelming in terms of accuracy and time efficiency. It is meticulous enough to find information what we have lost.”
Japanese TV company hired Erika Aoi as a new employee at 4.1. She is an Android robot developed by researchers from Osaka and Kyoto universities in Japan. She introduced herself to the Japanese TV announcer by participating in the technology exhibition in November 2017. She was given high intelligence, and she will have formal announcer training such as vocalization, conversation skills, and broadcasting language selection. She is also learning how to apply sports data to dialogue with the aim of taking into an actual participation to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
As time passes, the field of Artificial Intelligence is developing rapidly. AI is being developed in many ways that are helpful to our daily activities, and it actually makes people’s lives more convenient. However, some people feel negative when AI pops into their mind. It might be because AI may be not perfect in every way as light always casts a shadow. It is time to think deeply about some side effects or controversies hidden behind its brightness.
